UpdraftPlus 1.9 is coming very soon (not today; we’re still doing testing, testing, testing…).

The “big ticket” items are:

  • WordPress 3.9 compatibility. As you may know, WP 3.9 is coming soon (beta 2 has been released). The main change is that it switches internally to using a more modern database layer. UpdraftPlus 1.9’s restore/migrate code, which carries out database operations directly for speed, has been brought into line with this.
  • Import (and thus restore/migrate) backups from other backup plugins. We love this feature. Some other backup plugins don’t have a “restore” capability; they leave you to do it by hand. Or, they’re just legacy: UD out-moded them! We’ve created a new add-on which can import backups created by other plugins. Initially supported are zip backups from Simple Backups and BackUpWordPress. (Let us know what others are important to you). (For now, if your backups are in tar format, then just untar them and zip them up).
  • UD can now re-scan your remote storage for backups stored there. This is great for migrating your site without needing to download and upload the backup set (which can be slow if you’re on ADSL for your Internet access).

There are a few other small items, including the ability for SFTP/SCP users to use key-based login. There are also tweaks for usability too, as usual; and translations have been updated. A complete new Arabic translation is included (thanks to Omar Amassine – me at omar.ma, Ahmed Fahmy and Riyadh Altayib); and an incomplete Turkish one.
