UpdraftPlus confirmed today it had acquired Easy Updates Manager (EUM) plugin as part of its growing plugin portfolio.
Alongside making regular backups, everyone knows the importance of updating to the latest release of WordPress, along with updates to whatever other themes and plugins you happen to be using. Failing to do so can jeopardise security, making you vulnerable to bugs and without extra features and functionality. However, having to remember to perform all these updates manually takes time—which is where a neat little plugin called Easy Updates Manager comes in useful.
Automating updates allows you to simply “set and forget” and its multiple settings allow you to customise updates on each individual aspect of WordPress core (including major, minor and development updates), plus all themes, plugins, browsers, translations. This is incredibly useful if, for example, you’re a developer who’s created customised themes and wants to disable standard theme updates so that they don’t overwrite the versions you’ve created, or if your site is hosted on a legacy server and so can’t take the latest WordPress updates.
Easy Updates Manager is actively installed on almost 200,000 websites, and has just past the million download milestone. It has an average 5-star rating and glowing reviews from customers who appreciate its reliability, intuitive design and usefulness. The plugin was created in 2015 and was maintained on a voluntary basis by Matthew Sparrow and Ronald Huereca until this week, when it has officially been given over to UpdraftPlus.
Ronald says of the sale: “Matthew Sparrow and I were both burnt out on the project, so the offer to sell was a no-brainer. It’s bittersweet letting our baby go, but it’s in good hands.” The team trusted UpdraftPlus as a successful, well-established company and are full of faith and optimism in its future.
“Easy Updates Manager is a fantastic plugin with a fast growing and dedicated fan base” according to Joe Miles, Strategy Director of UpdraftPlus. UpdraftPlus acquisition makes sense, since updates and backups go hand-in-hand: it’s important to back up before updating: having sound backups is good insurance in case updates do mess things up.
Joe says, “We’re committed to keeping Easy Update Manager the most flexible plugin for making automatic plugin, theme and core updates. It ties in well with our UpdraftCentral service which allows web admins with lots of sites to update and manage all their sites from one place.”
UpdraftPlus is committed to improving, updating and refining the User Interface of Easy Update Manager. It also hopes to develop a Premium version of the plugin at some point in the future.
Easy Updates Manager is the latest of a series of plugins UpdraftPlus has acquired in recent months, including WP Optimize and MetaSlider.
Joe says: “I reckon the total number of installs across all our plugins could be over 3 million now. Although wordpress.org doesn’t give exact figures and there will be some cross-over, this figure may represent use by almost 10% of all the self-hosted WordPress.org websites out there!”
The world’s best WordPress backup plugin is ambitious to acquire more high quality backend plugins- so watch this space!
Congratulations on your very strategic acquisition. What better than an excellent backup plugin with one of the best plugins of updates! Complementary and indispensable. I think we will soon find the possibility from the dashboard of UpdraftPlus the possibility to update WP. Am I wrong ?
Hi Emmanuel,
Thank you! UpdraftPlus will remain a backup plugin; but UpdraftCentral, our management dashboard, is planned to gain features for managing Easy Updates Manager across multiple sites, yes.
