I am a new user and would like to post a very generic question – my search on “clone” did not give me the answer.
If I clone/migrate a full installation into a new directory I can log on at that directory and work there as a test environment. I cannot backup from that installation as I only have a single license. But I can again log out at that test environment, log in my actual installation and work there again. Correct, any recommendation on what I have to watch out for?

With your licenses, you can install UpdraftPlus and the Migrator add-on on your test environment, which will allow you to backup and migrate the content from the test site.
