Restoration Failure — PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions? My website looks ok, but this error message concerns me.

Hi Alex,

PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT means that the relevant zip file (in this case backup_2014-03-18-1823_Skeptiko__Science_at_the_Tippin_0194561bbf8d-plugins.zip) is corrupt.

Every time we’ve seen that happen, it means that the *upload* of the zip file into the ‘destination’ site did not complete properly. (i.e. The zip file that you have is probably fine – you can test it by unzipping on your PC – but that something went wrong when you uploaded it into the destination site). So, the solution is probably to just upload it again into your destination site, and run the migration again from there.

Hi David,

I also faced this issue on my last restore, the file size shown in the backup portion was different but when i download it the file size is smaller… i tried it multiple times and thought it is because of godaddy so i moved on with a manual backup.

I am not sure why thins is happening, and how every file i download is corrupt.

Hi,

Possibly you have another plugin that is injecting some unwanted whitespace on every WordPress operation – this is normally harmless (as HTML doesn’t care about whitespace), but will corrupt file downloads. The work-around is to download directly via FTP or Dropbox etc. instead of going through the UD dashboard.
