All being well, the next release of UpdraftPlus will feature a new file storage method – SCP.
SCP is a method of transferring files over an SSH connection. As such, it’s useful for people who run their own servers and want to back up to them (instead of a public cloud service like Dropbox or Google Drive). Read about it at Wikipedia. Usually, SSH servers make available the much more capable SFTP method – but there are a small minority of SSH servers out there which do not. Having SCP available as an alternative may make some backups possible that were not possible before.
SCP will be added to the “SFTP / FTPS” add-on. All existing customers will receive the feature in their next update. Not everybody is familiar with the differences between SFTP, FTPS and SCP (even leaving out the difference between ‘explicit’ and ‘implicit’ FTPS). No problem: one add-on will cover them all; so whatever encrypted file-transfer method you prefer, it’ll be there.
As far as we know, UpdraftPlus will be the only WordPress backup plugin supporting SCP. Stick with UpdraftPlus – it’s leading the pack!
