One million. That’s a lot of WordPress sites, too many to visualise but apparently the number of websites backed up with UpdraftPlus is something like the number of buildings in New York City.

One million sites is WordPress.org’s final milestone. Of over 50,000 WordPress plugins, we’ve joined the exclusive ranks of just 22 that have reached this landmark figure- 20 if you exclude the default plugins automatically installed by WordPress.

We’re now sitting proudly on WordPress’ Popular Plugins page. We did a bit more analysis and found that…

  • We’re one of only 7 of the 1 million+ user WordPress-plugins with a five-star rating
  • And of these 7, we have the second highest number of 5-star reviews after Wordfence

This news has bowled us over and we’re thrilled, particularly given how far we’ve come. Four years ago, our founder David Anderson was thinking about maybe creating a website to support the users of the free plugin. That was all that existed back then, and he hadn’t yet thought beyond it.

He recalls, “after doing a few releases, I remember looking to see how many downloads existing backup plugins had and thinking that they were so far ahead, there was no way UpdraftPlus would be anything than a small player.”

How wrong he was! Today, David Anderson estimates that UpdraftPlus must have made hundreds of millions of backups. It’s awesome to think that so many websites around the globe trust us to keep their websites safe.

So to all our loyal and supportive users, we want to say a big thank you! We couldn’t have got here without you.

Rest assured that our success so far only spurs us on to further expansion, innovation and development. We’re continually striving to make a good thing even better.

So watch this space…
