One often requested feature in UpdraftPlus is the ability to manually delete a backup set – i.e. choose one to get rid of, independently of the usual automatic pruning. This is now implemented in the development version, and deletes both local and cloud backups, for all cloud storage providers.

The main thing that we’re excited about that’s already ready is under the hood. When restoring a backup, UpdraftPlus currently downloads it (from the cloud provider – e.g. S3, Rackspace, etc.) and then restores all in one operation. In future versions, UpdraftPlus instead downloads, analyses, and then is able to present the user with options and advice based upon what’s in the backup.

This may sound dull to you so far. But it’s quite exciting to us. It paves the way for selective restores, and more options – e.g. choose to not restore certain plugins/themes, or choose to import only some users or sites from a Multisite backup. It means that mismatches can be found (e.g. you’re trying to import data from a newer WordPress install into an older one), and you can be pre-warned about all sorts of possible issues and given helpful advice to help everything run smoother. Basically it helps pave the way to move UpdraftPlus from just restoring your site, to being a tool which can migrate any components around with maximum flexibility.

For example, one use case would be that you can create a dump of your favourite 6 plugins, and import/activate them into your site all in one go – without having deactivate the existing ones. For example, if you’re a WordPress engineer, or SEO expert and want to install all your favourite tools at once- a big time-saver!

You can try out the development version (without add-ons) at any time, see what’s coming, and give us feedback – https://updraftplus.com/faqs/devversion.
