I just discovered that one of the sites I inherited support for had some improperly-prefixed custom tables in the database. That led to the discovery of the (wonderful!) UpdraftPlus “Backup non-WordPress tables contained in the same database as WordPress” option.

A couple of questions about that option:

    1) When you say “non-WordPress tables”, you really mean any tables not beginning with the prefix specified in wp-config.php–is that correct?

    2) Assuming I don’t have tables in my site database that I clearly DON’T want to back up, is there any downside to checking this option by default each time I set up a new instance of UpdraftPlus?

    Thanks.

    Hi Bob,

Yes, “non-WP table” is used to mean “table without the prefix used for indicating WP tables”. And yes, backing up all tables makes sense if you’re not sharing MySQL dbs across sites.

    Best wishes,
    David
