    Hello guys,
I just purchased the Business licence, tried to follow steps to activate it, but unfortunately I’m unable to remove the free version of updraftplus.
Wordpress says that updraftplus.php cannot be completely removed.
This is frustrating because I can’t even get to step number 2.

I’m looking forward to your response.
    Regards.

    Hi,

This means that the file permissions on your WordPress setup are set up so that WordPress does not have permission to remove the file. Presumably you installed it via FTP? Whether so or not, you should use FTP to remove it. i.e. Remove the folder wp-content/plugins/updraftplus

This is a good article for understanding more of how WordPress installs + handles plugins:

    Best wishes,

P.S. As an alternative to FTP, you can use the file manager in your web hosting control panel.

Thanks for the so quick response.
Just one last question before proceeding:
Will I lose the configuration I already have for backups after deleting the folder via FTP?

Thanks again for the prompt reply.
This is giving me a headache guys.
I can’t remove the files from the updraft folder (this never happened before when eliminating other plugins).
When trying to remove the folder via FTP I get:
    550 symed: Permission denied
    for each file

I really need this to work.
    Please help.
    Sebastian

    Hi Sebastian,

It sounds like you have UpdraftPlus files that are neither accessible to PHP, or to FTP, on your webserver. This isn’t something that can happen from inside WordPress – PHP programs (like WordPress and its plugins) don’t change file permissions (and usually can’t, even if they want to). In consequence, you’ll need to speak to your web hosting company, and ask them to 1) remove the folder wp-content/plugins/updraftplus for you, and to 2) advise you what ownership it had, such that it wasn’t possible for you to modify it either through WP or FTP (so that you can understand how it happened + how to prevent it).

    Best wishes,
    David
