Hey, quick question and possibly feature suggestion.
Has anyone used Backblaze B2 cloud storage via S3-Compatible option? Just curious if it already works.
If not, would be great to see Backblaze added to the remote storage options. Their pricing is even better than S3. https://www.backblaze.com/b2/cloud-storage.html

This isn’t something we’d look at for a while yet, until it’s clear that they’ve established themselves solidly and will be around for a long time. Storage providers tend to come and go… we’ve spent a lot of time on developing and maintaining two back-ends already that are gone/going (Bitcasa, Copy.Com).
It’s a pity that Backblaze invented their own API for access, instead of re-using one of the very many existing ones.

February 23, 2016 at 11:18 pm #144940ViktorParticipantHi David, thanks for the comment. Backblaze been around for 8 years, doing desktop backups. B2 is just a new service leveraging their existing datacenter and infrastructure to offer cloud storage similar to S3. I know the business isn’t going away, at least their core desktop backup service.
Is Updraft flexible/open enough to build/add our own remote backup endpoint? Or would it require changes to core plugin? I’m curious.
Thanks,

The remote storage code is fully modularised. Take a look in wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/methods – there’s one file per method. You just need to tweak one line near the top of class-updraftplus.php to activate a method.

When you get this working will you post back here and make the file available?
Thanks
August 20, 2016 at 6:14 am #168968PierreParticipantJust wanted to post here to say I support the idea / feature request, and would be glad to get the file(s) needed to use Backbkaze b2.
Thanks.August 21, 2016 at 2:49 pm #169080Ewing Creative AdminParticipantPierre – thanks for adding your voice.
If you look at David’s response from February 23 it seems unlikely that UD will add Backblaze anytime soon.
Have offered to pay for this functionality but so far no takers.
August 22, 2016 at 6:00 pm #169340ViktorParticipantWe are about 85% done with Backblaze implementation for UpdraftPlus. I have a developer putting in a few hours working on it. David is providing feedback to make sure the code complies with their standards, and we’re making revisions. Once it’s complete and David approves it, it will be added to UpdraftPlus premium.
August 22, 2016 at 6:16 pm #169342Ewing Creative AdminParticipantThank you Viktor for the update and the time you are spending on it.
