Hi, after migration process, seems everything is OK, but in Dashboard I’m getting the message

“W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /hermes/bosweb/web227/b2040/ipg.angelusminuscom/blog/wp-content/advanced-cache.php.”

    What’s wrong?

    Hi Tomasz,

It’s hard to say – does that file exist?

Either way – best to do what it says; de-install and re-install the plugin.

    Best wishes,
    David

    Hi,

I got the same issue while migrating one my customer sites.

Usually these cache plugins update your wp-config files and enter some code / path to initialize them… once the backup is migrated to another host the path is not found and errors are all over.

To avoid this you can check if there is anything in wp-config that should be removed to fix this.

    Thanks

    Hi Karim,

UD does have code to disable W3TC, and other cacheing plugins, after the migrate completes – in order to avoid this problem. So, for some reason that didn’t take effect on your site. If you send me the migration log, and/or share a link to the full backup set (e.g. via Dropbox or Google Drive), then I can take a look.

    Hi Karim,

I restored from that backup, and all worked fine… no W3TC messages… but, that backup doesn’t include W3TC in the backup (check it out yourself – open up the plugins zip – W3TC is not there!).

    Best wishes,
    David

    Hi David,

    Sorry for inconvenience.

I assume that it was installed in the new wordpress site by default as many of the hosting do… that was creating problem after restore…

I can not find any backup of old wp-config file and assume new wp-config is used as it is.. could this be the issue?

    Thanks

    Hi Karim,

W3TC being install before could well have something to do with it… but it’s still involving a big mystery: if the backup set does not include W3TC, then it doesn’t seem possible for W3TC to be displaying messages after the restore has completed. There must be some other complexity involved. Do let us know if you work it out!

wp-config.php is either not touched, or completely overwritten, depending on whether you check the checkbox. (For a migrate, you should never check that box – only for a restore to the same hosting as before).

Hi – i’m having the same issue above and can’t figure it out.

getting this error on the admin console:
W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /hermes/bosoraweb181/b2119/ipg.carlsbadorthopaedicc/wp-content/advanced-cache.php.

can’t locate this specific file. W3 is not actively installed.

    any ideas?

    Hi,

W3 Total Cache is a bit unusual, in that even when you think it’s inactive, there can be code that still runs it. So, you should entirely remove the plugin, not just de-activate it. And then re-install.

If the message still appears, then it’s that particular file you need to find – if you’re using FTP, then it probably appears as ipg.carlsbadorthopaedicc/wp-content/advanced-cache.php or perhaps just wp-content/advanced-cache.php, i.e. without some of the prefix on the path.

    Best wishes,
    David
