    I have a site that is on a decent VPS and it complains about a large file 304MB. These are important files and I want to still include it in the backup anyway. My zip file split is set to 400MB but it could probably be higher if needed.

    How can I make sure a large file is included? I tried searching for any hooks for filters for this but am not finding anything.

    Hello,

    Is the backup failing or succeeding? Large files will trigger a warning in either case. Please could you share the backup log file using pastebin.com?

    The backup is fine, it just sends a warning.

    “A very large file was encountered: uploads/xxxxx/xxxxx.zip (size: 304.7 Mb)
    Note that warning messages are advisory – the backup process does not stop for them. Instead, they provide information that you might find useful, or that may indicate the source of a problem if the backup did not succeed.”

    So I’m wondering if there is a way to change the settings so that it will accept a file a little over this size.

    Hello,

    The very large file should be included in the backup regardless of the split archive settings. I tested a similar scenario where my split archive settings are 25mb with a ~400mb file in the media folder. The Uploads component should contain a zip file with the large file as per this screenshot.

    Ok, that’s interesting. So I’m confused, does Updraft actually skip files for being large or not?
    The notice makes it sound like the file is being skipped for being too large, but if it’s not skipping it, I’d rather just turn off the notice, or change the threshold.

    Hello,

    The file should not be skipped, it should be included but you will receive a warning. The limitations on the size of the file may be restricted by your webserver but this shouldn’t be an issue unless you are backing up single files that are getting towards 2GB.

    As far as I know I don’t think it’s possible to alter the threshold for warnings of large files or remove the warning entirely but I will pass this feedback on to the development team.

    You can quickly verify if your backup contains the very large file by clicking the Uploads component on Backup / Restore >> Existing backups and clicking the Browse contents button as per this screenshot.

    Thanks, that sets my mind at ease!

    I manage a lot of websites, so email notifications from tools get overwhelming and I try to avoid receiving them unless they are reporting an actual problem or failure etc. So just telling me a file is big but nothing is actually wrong is not a very useful email. I would rather only get emails if a file is unable to be backed up, or the backup fails etc.
