The dedicated server hosting my website SupermanHomepage.com has crashed, and it looks like the hard drives storing my data have died. I was using Updraft to backup my site.

My question is, using the default settings, are my Updraft backups located on the same (now dead) server? Or are they stored remotely somewhere else? I’ve looked in DropBox and I don’t see them there.

Awaiting your prompt reply. This is a matter of great urgency, as 30 years of hard work is on the verge of being lost.

    Hi,

The default location is the wp-content/updraft directory of your site.
It doesn’t look like you have UpdraftVault so we won’t have a copy unfortunately.
Do you have any emails with your log attached? We would need your log file to tell you where the backups were going.

    Hi Vanessa,

    Thanks for the reply.

No, I do not have any emails with my log file attached that I can find.

My System Administrator attempted to perform (what should have been) a routine operating system update on the web server which hosts my website. We don’t know why, but the update process crashed the server and now, while we’re able to access the server in recovery mode, we’re unable to see the data. The hosting company (IONOS) thinks the hard drives are dead (which seems impossible in a RAID 0 configuration if the server is still online).

Unfortunately, while I have copies of a large amount of the website’s files on my local computer, the only full backup of the site was via UpdraftPlus, which is useless if I can’t access the data on the drives. :(

They’re trying to do a physical investigation of the drives, but (wouldn’t you know it) a blizzard has closed all the roads to the data center. If this wasn’t so tragic it would be funny.

It’s too late now, but it would seem beneficial if Updraft’s default setting was to store the backup files externally.

    That sounds awful.
You can set up a number of remote storage locations in the settings tab.
UpdraftPlus cannot do this automatically as you would need to authenticate your remote storage
