Hi, I purchased a Premium version of UpdraftPlus today and I am trying to set up FTP backups on my NAS server. I have the FTP correctly set up on my NAS, I can connect via Filezilla. However I cannot get UpdraftPlus to connect to the FTP on the NAS- it says The FTP connection timed out. It says to check with my host to see if port 21 is open. So I checked with Siteground and on shared hosting port 21 is open by default.

What kind of information can I provide that would help someone to help me solve this problem? I also tried checking and unchecking passive mode, checking do not verify ssl, and checking disable ssl. None of it helped.

    Thanks so much!

Update- I think it’s a problem with my NAS FTP but I’m not sure?

    1. updraftplus on siteground connecting to nas ftp times out
    2. updraftplus on site5, a different host, connecting to nas ftp also times out.
    3. updraftplus connecting to dropbox WORKS
    4. filezilla connecting to nas ftp WORKS

Any idea what I might be missing here? It’s starting to sound like it might be an issue with my NAS FTP, but then why can I connect to it using Filezilla?

It seems like something is blocking the connection such as a firewall.
Can you post your backup log using a tool such as pastebin.com

    Hi,

    That’s great, thank you.

The log is saying it’s an issue with your credentials, can you try resetting your password and then connecting?

Hi, I ended up solving the problem just a short few moments ago, by setting up SFTP instead of just FTP. That works fine for me, I’m happy with that.

    Thank you!
