Some time during the next few days, you should see UpdraftPlus 1.8.5 becoming available in your WordPress dashboard.
What’s new? Not a lot – this is a roll-up of various small convenience tweaks and minor fixes. (Some of those minor fixes you may already have – we sometimes, like many WordPress plugin authors, slip them into the existing release without changing the version number, if they are going to benefit only a small number of people).
The previous release – 1.8.2 – has certainly been our best yet; despite record-breaking numbers of downloads, the number of support requests we’re getting has been the lowest of any release we’ve had. We hope this one will improve upon it!
The full changelog is here. The largest change is the addition of the ability to exclude named directories from your backup of your “uploads”. By default, it will exclude backups created by two other plugins. Backups of backups are almost never wanted – and the ballooning sizes of backups that result from doing that can make you more likely to hit your resource limits if you’re on a budget web host.
The other main addition is of a full Portuguese (Brazilian) translation – thanks to Lucien Raven and Tom Fonseca.
After that, there’s a list of various small tweaks for extra speed here, and clarification of what a message means there, and things of that nature. As ever, a recommended update for all!
What’s next? Plenty – right now, we’re working very hard on our back-end infrastructure, and hope to have some announcements related to that in the next fortnight.
If you’ve not yet done so, then please do take a look at UpdraftPlus Premium – it’s where you get the complete UpdraftPlus experience in terms of both features and support, and our flagship offering.
Finally: for all paying customers, please remember that in WordPress, you should never update any paid plugin (whether UpdraftPlus or any other) whilst it is de-activated.
