    Hello,

I am installing the plugin on a new fresh multisite install. Followed the directions and uploaded the premium version to plugs, and it installs. I am even able to activate it.

But when I click on “settings” to configure it, I get an:

Oops! That page can’t be found.
It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try a search?

    (URL: domain.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=updraftplus)

    Help? :)

    Hi,

That indicates either that your .htaccess (or equivalent) file isn’t set up correctly, or that you’ve got a security module that intercepts the page request and forbids it. That error isn’t coming from UpdraftPlus – the error indicates that either the webserver or WordPress are not yet set up to route the URL into the part of WordPress that will eventually invoke UpdraftPlus. i.e. the options-general.php page in WordPress isn’t yet being run, and so it’s not yet getting to the stage where UD gets called. You’ll want to look into your URL-rewriting setup on your multisite install.

    Thanks, David.

I also tried installing the plug in on a regular (not multi-site) from scratch (on a brand new, fresh install of WP via softaculous) and got the same error.

Any other suggestions on how to handle this or walk around this?

    Hi,

This suggests the other possible cause – that you’ve got (that is to say, that the webserver has got) a security module that intercepts the page request and forbids it. Can you ask your hosting company what component is producing the page?

Before doing that, you could also check the Apache logs, to verify the error code being reported there. It may be that the exact text of the message is a red herring, and knowing the error code would help diagnose that. i.e. Search the Apache log for wp-admin/options-general.php?page=updraftplus, and copy the whole line from there.

    THanks, David.

That’s exactly what I did last night – sorry for the delay response.

I was able to figure out with my hosting company, so we can close this one off. Thanks!

    Hi Daniel,

Thanks – so, it was a security module of some sort? Any detail you have would be handy, for future reference, in case anyone has the same problem in future.

Sure! It was mod_security. Disabling it for the admin area (or entire site) did the trick.

Thanks. Your web host should be able to find in the mod_security logs as to which particular rule configured for mod_security blocked the access – if you ever wish to re-enable the module and benefit from it. mod_security is rule-based, and there are hundreds – turning it off loses the benefit of all of them, whereas there may just be one or two that were problematic. But anyway – that’s not my area, so I’ll leave that with you!

    David
