I’m currently running a backup and sending it to Google Drive as my remote storage. Normally I only see 5 zip files, and at the moment I have 48 zip files and counting as the backup is still in progress.

This seems very excessive, but I am on a fairly budget type shared hosting provider and the site is several hundred pages in 2 languages.

    Is this normal?

    Hi,

Please can you send a link to a copy of the backup log file? To get it, go to the ‘Existing Backups’ tab. Then we’ll be able to see what’s happening and advise.

    Best wishes,
    David

    Hi,

From the log, it appears that the backup generated 19 backup files. This is due to the fact that the Backup archive split limit is set to 25MB, and the Uploads directory is approximately 370MB. As such, multiple Uploads backup files are created.

The large amount of files that you saw while that backup was completing were most probably batch files for the zipping process. These are cleared up after the zip archive is created.

    Best Wishes,
    David

    Hi David,

While the backup was running, it said there would be 19 files created as well.

However when I went to my remote storage location, I found 43 zip files.

Here’s a screen shot showing all of them:

    Hi Michael,

Would it be possible to send a screenshot of the files in Google Drive showing the full file names of the backup files? Alternatively, would it be possible to share a link to access that folder in Google Drive (in a private reply or through our Customer Support Form)?

Are there any other backup logs that were generated on the same day? You can find these in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of the site, if they are not available through the UpdraftPlus settings page

    Best Wishes,
    David N

    Hi Mike,

Thank you. The problem is caused by an unusual set of coincident circumstances, and a fix has been added for our next release. In the meantime, you can avoid the problem by turning off the expert option for keeping a copy of the backup locally after despatching it to the remote storage.
