My backups have stopped working since August 29th. I used to have them setup automatically through my website, but since they stopped working i tried hooking up a script to cron. I try running the script manually and I’m still not seeing the backups working. Here’s the last line i see it hung on…

Adding batch to zip file (UpdraftPlus_BinZip): over 500 files added on this batch (5.7 Mb, 2629 files batched, 501 (1002) added so far); re-opening (prior size: 2763.2 Kb)

It’s been on this line for over an hour.

Like I said, everything was fine up to August 29th.

    Thanks!

    Hi Alan,

If running the cron script directly works, then it sounds like your web hosting company disabled automatic cron. You should ask them to confirm that, and preferably re-enable it.

If running cron directly, then you need to do it frequently enough for the size of your website…. see this article: https://updraftplus.com/faqs/why-am-i-getting-warnings-about-my-site-not-having-enough-visitors/ – it’s relevant to your site (the relevance is mentioned in the paragraph “Another way that this can happen…”.

    Best wishes,
    David

Hi udadmin – thanks for the reply… the backups are unfortunately not even working through the cron job – even when i run manually by just invoking the script. As mentioned above it gets stuck on the line…

Adding batch to zip file (UpdraftPlus_BinZip): over 500 files added on this batch (5.7 Mb, 2629 files batched, 501 (1002) added so far); re-opening (prior size: 2763.2 Kb)

… for over an hour and doesn’t seem to ever finish. Also in my target ftp folder (where i’m sending backups to), i haven’t seen anything ftp’d since the 29th when the backups started failing…

    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    Hi Alan,

It doesn’t get round to FTPing until after creating the zip, so the lack of stuff in your FTP folder is an after-effect of the main problem.

Can you email the backup log to [email protected], please?

Also, ask your web hosting company for where to find the “PHP log” – and either email that to me, or read it to find anything that appears at the relevant times.

    David
