I want to move a site from testing.quintandquint.com to quintandquint.com. As a test and to make sure I know how to use your plug-in and the migration add-on correctly, I decided to first try move the site from testing.quintandquint.com to my quintandquint.com/migrationtest (with the blog intended to go in the migrationtest directory.
With me so far? Great!
The homepage loaded beautifully! The problem lies in that none of the links in the navigation menu work correctly – they’re still looking for pages that live on testing.quintandquint.com.
Any ideas on how to resolve?

Did you tick the “search and replace” box (under ‘database’) when performing the migration? That’s essential.
If so, then please can you let us know what is showing in your WordPress dashboard in Settings -> General -> Site Address (URL) in both the old and new sites?Many thanks,
DavidJune 4, 2013 at 10:44 am #18109iamjoequintUserThanks for the speedy reply – yes, I did tick that box… and, as far as Settings > General > Site address is concerned, its’ https://testing.quintandquint.com on the old site and https://quintandquint.com/migrationtest on the new one.
I have a feeling that just changing it on the new one would foul things up, no? How should I proceed?

“Just changing it on the new one” – I don’t understand the question fully there, because the new site url isn’t the problem; from what you say, that already shows what you expect there.
Do you know how the navigation menu is built? Is perhaps the site URL hard-coded into your theme? Is it over-ridden somewhere? The “Migrator” add-on does a global-search-and-replace on the database; but it’s possible that the URLs you are seeing are coming from somewhere else… do you have any clues as to how/where?

Any other suggestions?

That may work, but it doesn’t get to the bottom of why the search-and-replace missed those out. It shouldn’t, and this isn’t a known issue (Migrator is our most popular add-on).
Would you be willing to perform a new migration, and send us these three things, please?
1) The backup file for the database that you’re importing (i.e. from the site you’re migrating from – the db.gz file created by UD)
2) A copy-and-paste of the output of the migration run (i.e. the stuff written out by UpdraftPlus when you do a migration)
3) A backup file for the database after migrating (i.e. run a new backup on the resulting site, and send us the db.gz file created by UD)
Also, the site URLs for the original + new sites.Please send to: [email protected].

I think this is pretty fouled up – I created a test page on the new site and added it to the menu. It showed up on the menu but then I got a 404 error when trying to go to it!
Any ideas?

The symptoms are all consistent with not having ticked the “search and replace” box. Hence I’m keen to see the output of the messages if you try it again – best thing is to just delete the existing migration, and do a new one.
But one more thing first – I’ll email you the latest copy of the plugin, so that we can test against that. I don’t think it has any fixes that would affect you, but it’ll be best to use it anyway (a new release is imminent any day now).

June 4, 2013 at 5:33 pm #18117iamjoequintUserI tried it again and it seems to have worked! I believe I had ticked the search and replace thing last time but one thing I did differently this go-round was to disable a caching plugin. Maybe that did the trick…
Anyway, I’m going to try it on my main domain shortly and I’ll let you know if I run into any difficulty. Thanks for your help!
