Hi UpdraftPlus Support,
I am trying to migrate a site from one server to the other. I thought your UpdraftPlus migration tool would help me, but I can’t seem to get it to work for me. I used your tool to create the backup files (Database, Plugin, Themes, Others, Uploads). I was able to restore all backup files except for the Database.
I did notice a warning prior to the restore: “The database server that this WordPress site is running on doesn’t support the character set (UTF8) which you are trying to import. You can choose another suitable character set instead and continue with the restoration at your own risk.”
I was given the option to select UTF8mb3 which I did. However, the site failed to load. I also tried UTF8mb4 but the site also failed.
Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

Would it be possible for you to share the restoration log file associated with the failed database restore via pastebin.com please? You can find this in the wp-content / updraft folder. The restoration log (as opposed to a backup log) will have the word “restore” in it and have a date modified value which corresponds with the restoration.
Best,
Paul

log.f3f917702379-browser.txt
log.f3f917702379.txtWill attempt the database restore again. Hopefully the filename will be there after the restore.

February 28, 2024 at 3:49 am #2056643jcsammy68ParticipantAfter I tried to restore the database again, the only files that show up are named like “log.??????-browser.txt” and “log-??????.txt”.
I also tried to restore database tables in groups.
“wp-options” is only table I tried to restore separately, and it is the only table that caused the site to fail.- This reply was modified 12 months ago by jcsammy68.

February 28, 2024 at 4:05 am #2056657jcsammy68ParticipantI noticed an error while UpdraftPlus was restoring the “wp_options” table:
An error (1) occurred: – Variable ‘sql_mode’ can’t be set to the value of ‘NULL’ – the database query being run was: I cannot paste teh SQL statement here because your site will block me.
Disabling Maintenance mode…
Atomic restore: dropping original table (wp_options)
Atomic restore: renaming new table (tv_options) to final table name (wp_options)
Search and replacing table: wp_options: rows: 464
Finished: lines processed: 510 in 1.21 seconds
Cleaning up rubbish…
This option was not selected.February 28, 2024 at 4:40 pm #2057320Paul BevanKeymasterHello,
Apologies I should have been clearer, I was referring to the word “restore” in the actual files themselves rather than the filename. Please could you share them via pastebin.com?
Best,
Paul
February 29, 2024 at 1:13 am #2057739jcsammy68ParticipantI am having issues with pastebin.com — I cannot activate my account because I did not receive the activation email nor will Pastebin.com resend it.
Do you have another way to get the file to you?February 29, 2024 at 12:15 pm #2058189jcsammy68ParticipantI paste the file as a guest. https://pastebin.com/0zxGX20j
February 29, 2024 at 8:36 pm #2058548VanessaModeratorThis says the restore was successful but you only restored your user and user meta tables.
Can you do another backup of your DB from the source site and post the log?March 4, 2024 at 6:22 am #2061811jcsammy68ParticipantBackup and restore to a new server instance was successful. Steps taken:
1. Changed the custom WordPress login slug back to “wp-admin”
2. Backup everything
3. Restore the database first ***Use the UpdraftPlus recommended UTF8MB3 to replace UTF8***
4. Restore the other backups: plugins, themes, other, uploads
5. Activated the plugins ***Apparently the restore did not activate the plugins***
6. Do not activate plugins that are not tested with the latest WordPress version
7. Activate the theme
8. Configure security
9. Change WordPress login slug to a ***custom slug***
10. Configure GeoBlockThat’s it!
Thank you for your help!
March 4, 2024 at 10:41 pm #2062520VanessaModeratorI am glad to hear that you managed to restore.
If the DB is restored separately to the DB, they will be automatically deactivated to prevent errors. -
