HostGator Faililng to Deliver UpdraftPlus Status Emails

HostGator appears to be having a problem that’s causing various website-generated emails to fail to be delivered to ANY external addresses. (They do get delivered to HostGator email accounts on the same server, but that’s not very useful.) UpdraftPlus’s status emails seem to be one of the types impacted.

The problem began about 8 days ago. It impacts sites I support on three different HostGator servers, and a fellow web developer I checked with reports the same thing with client sites she supports on additional HostGator servers. It’s bizarre in that certain emails (e.g., BackWPup status emails and Wordfence alerts, but not WordFence test emails sent via its test dialog) go through fine, while others don’t. I haven’t been able to determine what’s different about the emails that get HostGator-hosed vs. those that don’t. UpdraftPlus’s emails are failing to get through with 100% consistency.

I’ve worked around the problem by switching all the sites I support to use Google SMTP. I’ve reported the issue to HostGator Support, and finally got a first-level tech to duplicate it, but the ticket seems to have died after that.
