I am trying to install updraftplus on my new wordpress site so that I can upload the backup from my old site (in order to move the content from one domain to another, basically). I have installed my zip file to the new site, which then wants to connect with the Updraft website to get a key but it is just not happening. I have spent a lot of time trying to figure it out from the content available on this site, but it is just not working out. This is because the instructions to get a key are assuming other things and then it just turns into a mess of confusion – do this, but to do this you have to do that, but you need to do this first and…….

To install UpdraftPlus Premium on your new site:
- Uninstall any version of UpdraftPlus currently on the site
- Download UpdraftPlus Premium from this link – https://updraftplus.com/wp-content/updraftplus.zip
- Upload that file to WordPress through the WordPress Plugins page, and activate the plugin
- Go to Settings->UpdraftPlus Backups, and open the Premium/Extensions tab
- Enter your UpdraftPlus account email and password, and press the ‘connect’ button
- You should then be shown a link to update UpdraftPlus and activate your addons. Follow this link
Your add-ons should then be fully activated.

But – I get to the point where I have to create the key on the site I wish to import into, but I only get (eventually) a message ‘internal server error’. So no key. I’m using iPage, which has not been a problem for WordPress. What to do?
August 23, 2016 at 5:20 pm #169519Dee NutbourneModeratorHi Peter,
Can I confirm, does the internal server error occurs at this step:
“Enter your UpdraftPlus account email and password, and press the ‘connect’ button”;or when you are attempting to create a migration key through the ‘Clone/Migrate’ button?
An internal server error is a general error message that indicates that something has gone wrong on the server. To find the exact nature of this error, you will need to contact your hosts/server admin and ask them to investigate the PHP error logs.
These logs should contain further information on the error, which will allow us to find a solution.

I know this is actually a simple process (migrating) but when I was searching the knowledge database there was a deluge of information that did not specifically answer the question (which required a lot of reading whilst not getting to the point) – so hopefully users in the future will find this more easily.
Thanks again.
