Hi, I read the documentation at https://updraftplus.com/support/installing-updraftplus-premium-your-add-on but it does not explain the preferred method for activating the plugin under a Multisite installation.

I have purchased UpdraftPlus Premium Backup Plugin. My organization has a large WordPress Multisite installation. I want to use UpdraftPlus to backup the parent website as well as all of the child websites under our Multisite installation, and be able to restore individual websites if needed in the future.

QUESTION – Regarding how to activate the plugin:
    – Do I NETWORK ACTIVATE the plugin? or…
    – Do I activate the plugin individually for the parent website, and for each individual child website?

Which way is the preferred method for a Multisite installation?

    Thank you!

Also, one of the main reasons I purchased UpdreaftPlus backup plugin was that it works with Multisite. However, after network activating the plugin, I see a message that tells me that there there is an issue….

UpdraftPlus warning: This is a WordPress multi-site (a.k.a. network) installation. WordPress Multisite is supported, with extra features, by UpdraftPlus Premium, or the Multisite add-on. Without upgrading, UpdraftPlus allows every blog admin who can modify plugin settings to back up (and hence access the data, including passwords, from) and restore (including with customised modifications, e.g. changed passwords) the entire network. (This applies to all WordPress backup plugins unless they have been explicitly coded for multisite compatibility).

Why am I getting this warning when UpdraftPlus is supposed to work with WP Multisite?

    Hi Darrin,

If you’ve seen that warning, then you’ve not yet completed all the steps in the installation guide… when you’ve completed then, your installed version, as shown in the WP plugins page, should begin with a 2, and end with a number greater than zero, e.g. 2.12.9.22 or 2.12.9.1, depending upon what you bought. So, I suggest confirming that – and if it’s not (e.g. ends in .0), then you’ll want to go back to the install guide.

The plugin should be network activated.

    Best wishes,
    David

Thanks David – it appears to be active now. Thanks also for letting me know that it should be network activated.
