When I try to connect the UpdraftPlus plugin on my new website to my existing UpdraftPlus Premium account, I get an error message that says, “updraft_send_command: error UpdraftPlus: could not parse the JSON (502).”

When I logon to UpdraftPlus, I can see my backup files in my Vault.

I want to use the latest Backup files to restore my web site (inner-sanctuary.com).

I had inner-sanctuary.com for a few years and used UpdraftPlus to back it up periodically.

About a year ago, I stopped using inner-sanctuary.com and released that domain, but I kept the backups for inner-sanctuary.com on UpdraftPlus.

Luckily, when I decided to reactivate inner-sanctuary.com, I discovered that nobody had taken it. So, I have now re-registered it to me and I have it hosted by Bluehost.

Can you help me resolve that JSON error and restore inner-sanctuary.com using the latest backup on UpdraftPlus?

    Please advise.

    Thank you,

    Jim

    Hi Jim,

updraft_send_command: error: UpdraftPlus: could not parse the JSON (502)

This usually means that on your webserver there is a security module which is blocking requests from UpdraftPlus, such as mod_security in Apache. You should speak to your webserver administrator (e.g. web hosting company) to ask them how to turn it off, or how to allow the requests that it is blocking.

    Regards,
    Bryle

This is my response to the email that I received from Bryle:

    Bryle:

I talked to tech support at Bluehost. They carefully checked to see if there was any security module, or other security service or feature that might be blocking requests from UpdraftPlus. They found nothing like that.

Do you have any other ideas as to what could be done to clear this problem?

    Thank you,

    Jim

The “Connection” process worked this morning. No more JSON(502) error.

But I cannot figure out how to actually get the plugin to do the Restore.

Can you get that to work?

We’d like to use the most recent Backup files in our Updraft Vault.

They are from March 2023. One is a -db.gz file. The other is a -plugins.zip file.

Let me know when you start work on this today/tonight.

I will monitor this site and my email to see if you have any questions or updates.

    Hi,

Here is our restoration guide: https://updraftplus.com/faqs/restore-site-updraftplus/
Are you restoring to the same URL or a different one.
If it’s a different one, you will need to download the backup from Vault and then upload it to the site (Vault is bucket based meaning you can only restore the backup on the site on which it was created)

    Vanessa:

    Have you talked to Bryle?

She has all the latest info on this ticket in emails that I sent her yesterday and today.

I have read and followed the instructions for Restore but it is not working. When I follow the process to
upload the 2 most recent backup files, nothing happens.

If you want to get access as an Admin to inner-sanctuary.com so you can see what I mean, please let me know.

Bryle asked me to give her access to inner-sanctuary.com as an Admin about 2 days ago, but I do not know if she ever logged on.

I want to restore to the same URL on which the backups were done: inner-sanctuary.com .

Please also see the ticket notes above and the notes that I am adding now here:
(These were all sent to Bryle via email.)

About a year ago, I stopped using inner-sanctuary.com and released that domain, but I kept the backups for inner-sanctuary.com on UpdraftPlus.

Luckily, when I decided to reactivate inner-sanctuary.com, I discovered that nobody had taken it. So, I have now re-registered it to me,and it is hosted by Bluehost (Same hosting service as before>)

At that time the backups were done from inner-sanctuary.com. I want to use those files to restore inner-sanctuary.com to the way it was in March of 2023.

    Why is that not working?

Can you figure out a way to make it work?

    Please advise.

    Thank you,

    Jim

And….meant to say …. , Bryle’s access as an Admin on inner-sanctuary.com has been suspended but we could re-activate it for her or set up a new Admin ststus for Vanessa, if you think that will help you to figure this out and get the Restore done.

If you do figure it out, please to NOT actually do the restore until I give you the “go ahead”.

My wife is in the process of re-creating the site “by hand”, so I would NOT want you to over-write all her work unless she tells us that is OK with her.

    Hi,

Apologies, it sounds like you have been talking to Bryle via the helpdesk. I think it’s best that you continue this with him via the support desk otherwise things might get very confusing!
