Migrate a Web Site

Hi,

I would appreciate some advice please. I am moving a web site from an old host to a new host and I would like to get the sequence right for the restore/migrate.

I have a backup from the old site with the right domain name. On the new host I have a WordPress installation under a temporary domain name.

The question I have is – at what stage do I do the restore/migrate to the new site ?

I presume I have to wait until the domain name actively points to the new host before I do the restore/migrate or can I do the restore/migrate on the new host with the temporary domain name and then do another restore with the same files when the new domain is active ?
