Migrate using clone option

Hi There,

I subscribe a new hosting and would like to move my website to this new hosting and would like to use the clone option to migrate the website but before i proceed i would like to confirm several points below :

1. i will create a destination at the new hosting and create an addon domain and install the wordpress into it, the question is must i use the same domain as the source (domain at old hosting)?

2. my domain is purchased at namecheap while my new hosting is at siteground must i changed the DNS to point to the new hosting before i proceed with the migration or change it after all the cloning succeded?

3. please tell me if they is other important step that i need to pay attention to.

Hi Leo,

No, you do not need to use the same domain on the old site/hosting.

If you wish to keep the same domain on the new hosting, then you should follow this guide:

thanks, i have read all the step that you provide and it is very clear to me now , FYI I am actually moving my website from old hosting to new hosting with the same website name, so i guess i will be using the same website name on both side, I have decided to use the backup files that i had created at the old hosting and restore it from my dropbox to the new hosting, so i have created the same website name at my new hosting as an addon domain and had install wordpress into it, but i have difficulty to login to the site since it always refered back to the old hosting admin (may be because i haven’t change the DNS setting, but i think i will do it after all the files and databases are transfered properly), please let me know how to login to admin at the domain at new hosting since i need to install the updraftplus plugin into it before i can restore the files from the drop box.

Hi,

You can override the siteURL by adding the following code to your wp-config.php file:

define('WP_SITEURL', 'https://example.com');
define('WP_HOME', WP_SITEURL);

Update the example URL to the new site’s current URL or IP address. You should be able to access the new site’s WP Admin.

i have succeded login to my new install wordpress at the new hosting and had install updraftplus into it however i cannot activate the all option specifically the migrate option it says the subscription maybe expired but i have check my purchase date is in April so i think it is not expired please help.

Thanks for the adjustment, i am able to activate the all addon at both side and update the updraftplus and now both have the same version and i have done a backup to my dropbox with this lastest version and i have succeeded restore the backup from my dropbox to the new site by following the below option :

3.OR, set up the destination site to use the same remote storage (e.g. same Dropbox) as the source site, save your settings, and then press the “Rescan remote storage” link in the ‘Existing Backups’ tab on your destination site.

Also i noticed that there is no search and replace option ask as i read it at the instruction below :

Important: Since this is a migration, after clicking ‘Restore’, you will also need to check the “Search and replace site location in the database” option. This option is what will instruct UpdraftPlus to fix everything in your database for your new location (URL). (If you forget to do so, then it is not fatal – here are the instructions to recover).

Is this ok ?, also during restore there is also an error message as follows :

File (backup_2018-04-04-1458_Karangan_Bunga_Toko_Bunga_fa17b3d6228f-uploads.zip) was found, but has a different size (417775616) from what was expected (418609006) – it may be corrupt.

I have done a quick check at the newsite after restore by clicking a few menu at the site, seems like there is no missing link, please help to explain what has happened, thanks.

Hi,

Please could you send us a copy of the full restoration log? This can be found in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of the new site.

The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Dropbox or Pastebin, and post the link here.

The ‘search/replace’ migration option will only appear when the URL of the site changes. Since you are keeping the same URL, the search and replace should not be needed.

Hi,

The log does not show any errors occurring.
It appears that the ‘different size’ warning was a false positive.

If there does not appear to be any content missing from the site, it seems that the restoration was successful.
