Migration Failure

Hello – I have a site https://helicontv.com. I was trying to migrate it to https://roberttullierproductions.com and it keeps failing and destroyed the existing roberttullierproductions.com site.
I backed up roberttullierproductions.com and then made a clean WordPress install loaded the updraft plugin and migrated the site as per your instructions. The migration failed 4 different times. I finally went to restore the original RTP site, and it is destroyed.

Please advise.

Hi Tim – I was having the same crisis yesterday. See this link for the discussion that Mark and I were posting. Mark noted that we are both using Elegant Themes (I’m using Divi). He successfully restored another site that also is using Elegant Theme so it may be a false flag but I was wondering what theme you’re using.

Thanks, Tim. Did you happen to see the error I posted in the other thread. Do you see any other common threads to yours? Once the migration failed, everything crashed so I couldn’t get my hands on a log for more detail.

Hi Carolyn,

To help us work out the cause of your problem, can you please send us a copy of the migration log?
You can find this log in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of your new site location.
You can send the log file as an attachment or copy the contents into an online tool (such as https://pastebin.com/ )

Another thing I noticed that updraft did not even come close to unpacking the files. When I logged into the server 95% of the files were actually missing besides the corrupted database.

Hi Carolyn,

It appears that the migration process is timed out or killed off while processing the other.zip. Could you try to check the contents of the others.zip backups and see if there are any large files in it that causes the process to halt?

Could you also ask your hosts/server admin to investigate their PHP error logs. These logs should contain more information on the exact issue that is causing the migration process to halt.

Hi Bryle – I believe you are confusing Carolyn and my thread, even though they are the same issue. I own my own servers – which PHP log would like info from ? What do you classify as a “large” site. My uploads folder is around 1 GIG.

The Others.zip is only 2.5mb. I was able to restore all of the individual zip files (including the others.zip) without an issue. The problem occurred when migrating the database from one domain to another.

The host does not archive error logs and only keeps for a few hours. I’ve turned on archiving–of course, I’m not trying the restore again as I’ve already migrated the site by hand.

According to the information posted by the others having issues, we all have different hosting setups.

Timothy, did anything more happen here or is the problem still there? I was helping support on this in another thread a week ago but had to stop. I have this problem on one site so far, but other sites that are similar seem to be unaffected. Site sizes are not very large. Problem is limited to the recovery of the database file only. All other zipped up archives irrespective of size unzip and load ok on restore. I noted in my case that saving the MySQL file from within the hosting it was 8.5MB and from Updraftplus database archive it was 3.2MB. That might just be the compression. The support person looking at a site I set up for them to demo the problem (which they did and crashed the site, so they have seen what we are seeing), they thought that the database file was incomplete, some tables were missing. I will try to pick this up again next week if it is still a problem.

Support have now passed this problem to Development. It looks to be a bug introduced in the latest version of Updraftplus. The previous version works ok. Anticipate it will be fixed in the next release. – Mark
