    Hi,

I’ve previously had no trouble setting up automated backups of my WordPress sites to Google Drive. However I’ve been trying to set up a new backup today and I’m having the following problem:

I have created a new project and enabled the Drive API. Then in the OAuth Consent Screen I add my product name and homepage URL but as soon as I click ‘save’ I get the following error message – Error The user request is invalid. Please check your URL and try again.

There is nothing wrong with the URL and this prevents any further progress. Any ideas?

I add my product name and homepage URL

Is the homepage URL require by Google? What happens if you just leave it out?

    Hi Robert,

Do Google have anything to say about it? It seems as if, if the URL is optional, then entering no URL shouldn’t produce a “invalid URL” message unless there’s a bug in the Google console, which there aren’t likely to be any work-arounds for other than Google fixing it. Assuming I’ve followed your description rightly!

I’m assuming the problem is at my end – if it was a general problem then it probably would have been picked up by now. I’ve sent them some feedback. Is there a way to contact them directly for support?

    Hi Robert,

Google’s Developer Console help page – https://developers.google.com/console/help/new/ – has some ‘Connect’ options down in the bottom left.

They don’t make it easy do they! This is a website for a client so I’m wondering if perhaps there is some form of conflict with the site already being registered to their Google Account. I might see if I can set up the backup on their Google Drive. Will let you know what happens.

Thanks for the help so far by the way.
