I have tried repeatedly to Restore a backup, but it keeps failing.
I get the error “UpdraftPlus restore error: 404 Not Found” plus an alert box, “Unexpected response: Security check”, keeps appearingI am restoring a backup from Dropbox. It is a site migration – to the test server, from the live site. I have carried out various Restore of backups before successfully.
one difference since previous attempts is that Yoast was installed. I have since uninstalled it as I thought this was maybe linked (after web search).
I then successfully Restored this backup to my localhost website.
however, I still can’t get a successful Restore on my test site. (tried a newer backup as well, same error)June 18, 2019 at 4:42 pm #401506Bryle CroduaModeratorHi,
To help us work out the cause of your problem, can you please send us a copy of the restoration log?
You can find this log in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of your site via FTP.
You can send the log file as an attachment or copy the contents into an online tool (such as https://pastebin.com/ )Best Wishes,

Thanks for your reply.
I don’t see an attachment option with this post.
I haven’t used pastbin before – are there any personal details in the log file that I wouldn’t want made public in pastebin?
thanks

You can use Dropbox, Google Drive or any online service you like. The log should be safe to share here. You can also mark your reply here as private if you like.

Thanks for sending the log.
It appears that the restoration process has been timed out or being killed off. This is usually due to server already reaching its resources limit.
Please ask your hosts/server admin and have them check the PHP error logs. These logs should contain a record of the exact information as to why the process could not complete.
Kind Regards,

Can I ask why very soon into the restoration process, I am prompted to login to the WordPress site again? This didn’t happen with previous restorations. I am wondering if it is connected?
Thanks
July 2, 2019 at 2:34 pm #406528gina.finchParticipantPlease could you respond to my previous question.
Also, it turns out that the restore is failing because it’s exceeding the execution time of the core Apache TimeOut Directive, which is set fairly high at 300.
My IT department is unwilling to set this higher on the live server as it helps to protect it.Can you offer any help on this?
July 2, 2019 at 2:46 pm #406536gina.finchParticipantRestoration failed again, with a high execution time of 400.
Again, there’s a dialogue box of:
Unexpected response, Security check.
Please can you advise?July 3, 2019 at 2:55 pm #407004Bryle CroduaModeratorHi,
Could you try to restore the components one by one instead of running them all together? Just make sure to run the database last.
Does that allow you to restore the site successfully with that method?Regards,
BryleJuly 19, 2019 at 11:11 am #413076gina.finchParticipantHi
Apologies for the delay in replying – I’ve been on holiday.
Yes, that is what I did in the end. It did work this way, but obviously this is not an ideal solution.
Can you suggest how to get the one click install working?
Thanks
GinaJuly 19, 2019 at 1:28 pm #413121Bryle CroduaModeratorHi Gina,
Please ask your host/server admin to increase your server resources such as I/O limit, site memory and maximum_execution_timeout.
Then attempt a new restoration. Let us know if you still get the same issue and if you do, send us copy of the restoration log.Regards,
BryleJuly 31, 2019 at 3:11 pm #417561gina.finchParticipantPrior to doing what you suggested, I Restored the most recent backup onto my test site.
The process seemed to be successful. I was required to relogin to WordPress at the end, but Updraft reported a “Success!” Message.
However, the WordPress site had been stripped back to the basics, with no plugins etc any more.I had to reinstall Updraft. It remembered all previous settings and had previous backups listed.
I just tried to Restore only the plugins, but again it reported success and left the site stripped of plugins – including updraft.
I have managed to reinstall an older update, doing it in stages. What do you think caused this problem?
August 1, 2019 at 11:15 am #417919Bryle CroduaModeratorHi,
Is it possible to get access to your website? So we can check first hand.
Regards,
BryleAugust 5, 2019 at 12:45 pm #419181gina.finchParticipantI’ve restored a new backup and been successful – I think the backup plugin file I tried previously must have been corrupted.
I can get backups through if I do the Uploads separately, so perhaps the large file size of that file must have been causing my problems.
I can accept that I need to do this in 2 stages to get it through successfully.
So, I’m happy to close this support ticket for now.
Thanks for your help -
