    Hi guys,

Have tried searching the forum and site but couldn’t find the answer – sorry if I missed it!

    1. I am migrating a website from one host to another the domain will be the same.
    2. I would like to recreate it on the new host server before altering DNS settings.
    3. I would like to test that all links, images etc are working before changing DNS.
    4. Is there a way I can use ‘search and replace’ and enter the temporary domain name. Then, once I’ve checked it is all working, alter the domain name server settings, then use ‘search and replace’ again to reset all URLs to original domain name?

Is this the correct way to go about it or is there a better solution I am missing?
If this is correct where can I find ‘search and replace’ in Updraft

    Ok thanks for that.
I followed the steps in the link. However, when I tried to get my website IP address they told me they couldn’t supply website access via IP (because it’s a shared server).
I have instead migrated and plan to use search and replace.
    Is this an acceptable work-around?

    Hi Geoff,

Your web hosting company has misunderstood the question. It’s not necessary to access the site directly via IP address; just to know what the IP address of the server is, so that it can be added to your hosts file. If you show the above link to your hosting company they should then understand.
