On the top of my UpdraftPlus settings page I have a link asking me to authenticate my Drobox account again or I won’t be able to backup to Dropbox. When I click the link, it looks like it tries to load a page, but all I’m getting is a blank white page.

I’ve tried clearing my browser cache. I’ve tried restarting my site on the web server. I’ve tried reinstalling the plugin. I’m not sure what’s hanging this up. Any clues?

    Hi Troy,

Could you copy and post the full URL of the blank page? (you can send this as a private reply)

Could you also try turning on the WordPress debug mode? To do this, find the following line in wp-config.php, and change ‘false’ to ‘true’:

    define('WP_DEBUG', false);

Then, follow the link. Do any errors appear on the page?

    Best Wishes,
    David N

    Hi Troy,

The latest error that you are receiving indicates that something may be broken in your web hosting setup.

UpdraftPlus requires a small amount of random data as part of the authentication process. The error indicates that the server is unable to provide this data.

You will need to contact your hosts and show them that error. They should be able to fix the issue with the PHP installation.

    Best Wishes,

    David,

I’m hosting this myself on a Windows 2003 web server. I’m not having this issue with the other sites I have backed up with Updraft.

I’m not sure what you mean by a small amount of “random data”? What would prevent a server from doing this for a single website?

    Hi Troy,

The error message is saying that a particular function in your PHP install – https://secure.php.net/mcrypt_create_iv – is failing. It indicates that your PHP install is having trouble providing random data, which is needed to complete Dropbox authentication.

If you wait a while for more random data to be available, that might work. Or, you could try upgrading PHP – if my memory serves correctly, then this was a particular problem on older PHP versions on Windows platforms, but isn’t a problem in modern PHP versions.

    David
