unreadable file – could not be backed up

I picked up a small job to update a site that’s been unmaintained for a while. First thing I wanted to do was create backups, so I installed UpdraftPlus. No one seems to know how to find ftp credentials, or really even what that is, nor the hosting info.

Tried running Updraftplus but it terminates immediate with an error message that says
“Failed to open directory (check the file permissions): /home/<obfuscated>/public_html/wp-content/plugins/revslider/temp/update_extract/revslider
[Warning] plugins/revslider/temp/webmaster/input.php: unreadable file – could not be backed up”

I’m reluctant to do too much as I fear this may be a little delicately balanced. I tried deactivating the RevSlider plugin, and just working with it a bit, but that didn’t help. If I could ftp in I might just delete that file but ftp doesn’t seem to be available. Thinking about deactivating and deleting the RevSlider p/i and reinstalling.

Anyone have better ideas? Can I force UpDraft to ignore the error and continue?

That’s already what happens. If it’s not happening for you, then please link your backup log file, so that we can take a look.

Thanks – I see. There’s a whole unreadable directory, and it doesn’t like that very much. You can just delete this whole directory, as it’s just a temporary directory:

/home/stutzart/public_html/wp-content/plugins/revslider/temp

Hi – thanks. Deleting the offending part was my first thought, but the client can not even tell me the name of the hosting company, much less any ID/password to do that. It’s not my work to begin with so I’ve suggested they are likely better off going back to the original developer. Looks like it’s hosted on the developer’s server…
