I’m trying to install and update UpdraftPlus on my local computer WP install — when I click on the link “An update containing your addons is available for UpdraftPlus – please follow this link to get it.”, I get the following:

    Downloading update from https://updraftplus.com/?udm_action=download&slug=updraftplus&muid=1&token=…
    Unpacking the update…
    Installing the latest version…
Removing the old version of the plugin…
    Could not create directory. C:/inetpub/wwwroot/dt2/wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/
    Plugin update failed.

At this point the plugin is gone since it deleted the plugins/updraftplus directory. This is Windows/IIS and I’ve given all users full control of the plugins folder.

    Hi,

    Could not create directory. C:/inetpub/wwwroot/dt2/wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/

This means that WordPress tried to create that directory, by calling the “mkdir()” command, and that the operating system said “no, operation failed.” Possible causes of this are 1) permission denied 2) disk full or 3) faulty disk. There’s nothing special I can say about it from an UpdraftPlus angle, as at that point, all WP is doing is saying “Hey, computer, create a directory!” whilst its copying over the plugin files.

As an alternative, if it happens again, you can copy/paste the URL after “Downloading update…” directly into a web browser, download the zip, and unzip it by hand into wp-content/plugins – that’ll do the same thing as WP is trying.
