Updraft Migration issue

Hi,

I recently migrated a site with the updraft migrator tool. It said it succeeded with no errors, but when browsing the new site the banner is not functioning and there is a fixed menu on all of the websites pages. Here is a link to the original site: http://www.1157designconcepts.com/

Hi David,

When viewing https://03a82e3.netsolhost.com/wordpress2/ in a web browser, and then going to the terminal, there are lots of 404s for theme items, e.g. https://03a82e3.netsolhost.com/wp-content/themes/designconcepts/css/droplinebar.css.

So, check via FTP – is that file there? i.e. wp-content/themes/designconcepts/css/droplinebar.css. If not, then is it in the “themes” zip that UpdraftPlus created. If it is there, then you must have something in your .htaccess file that is blocking access to that file, so check that.

Pasting the migration log file would also help – find it via FTP in wp-content/updraft.

Sorry for the slow reply – for some reason, the forum did not email me when you posted.

If https://03a82e3.netsolhost.com/wp-content/themes/designconcepts/css/droplinebar.css is giving a 404 (which it is – you can visit), but the file /wp-content/themes/designconcepts/css/droplinebar.css really does exist in your webspace, then there must be a webserver configuration issue. i.e. the file’s there, but when asked for it the webserver says “no file” when asked for it. You should ask Network Solutions about why that is happening – and please do let us know what they say!

Hi,

Ah – I see the issue now.

Your source site has hard-coded links which have partial URLs, like in this example (using the same file as above):

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/wp-content/themes/designconcepts/css/droplinebar.css" />

You’ve restored into a sub-directory /wordpress2, so those links no longer work.

The link doesn’t get search/replaced, because it doesn’t begin with the site URL. i.e. it isn’t:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="https://www.1157designconcepts.com/wp-content/themes/designconcepts/css/droplinebar.css" />

So, it doesn’t get search/replaced into:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="https://03a82e3.netsolhost.com/wordpress2/wp-content/themes/designconcepts/css/droplinebar.css" />

It’s not possible to second-guess which hard-coded links should be replaced, and which should be left alone.

Two solutions:

1) The source site needs fixing to use full URLS.

OR

2) Restore your site into a subdirectory at the same level – i.e. restore into / instead of into /wordpress2 – then those style of links will still be pointing to the right place.
