I recently reset my account password on the UpdraftPlus website, and immediately (on the next schedule) all of my site backups started failing (around 30 sites), with the message:
“Have not yet obtained an access token from Google – you need to authorise or re-authorise your connection to Google Drive.”
The log files state:
“Google Drive error (invalid_grant) when requesting access token: response does not contain access_token. Response: { “error” : “invalid_grant”, “error_description” : “Token has been revoked.”}”
I have now spent several hours re-authorising tokens (I’m sure you can imagine how tedious this is on so many sites), yesterday I even re-generated the token “secret” for some sites to try that and they still failed. At the time the auth worked, the Updraft dash states it successfully got auth and shows the space left on Google Drive; the manual back ran and uploaded no problems – but as soon as the first scheduled backup runs, it just fails again as above.
I am paying for a large Google Drive so am reluctant to ditch Updraft because of this issue, but I can no longer be spending so much time reconfiguring the plug-in ever day.
My other issue is that it just dumps failed uploaded backups on the server and just leaves them their – a huge issue for large sites. Is there any way to stop it from doing that?
October 14, 2016 at 5:36 pm #176490Dee NutbourneModeratorHi Daniel,
Do each of your UpdraftPlus installations have their own separate Google Drive projects, or are all sites connected to the same project?
If a backup fails to upload to remote storage, there is not a way to prevent the files being left on the server. UpdraftPlus must first create the backup files on the server, then deletes the local copies after they are uploaded to remote storage. If the upload fails, then the files will not be deleted.

Please could you send us the most recent backup log where you saw the ‘invalid grant’ error? This can be found in the Existing Backups tab of the UpdraftPlus Settings page.
The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Dropbox or Pastebin, and post the link here.
You can also set your reply to ‘private’ if you prefer.Best Wishes,

Updraft support said it was something to do with server clocks being out of sync.
October 18, 2016 at 2:38 pm #176932DanielParticipantThanks for the input Alex. Did you resolve it in the end? If so, what did you do?
This is affecting sites on two separate hosting platforms.

The usual cause for this is having too many sites linked to an individual Google project in your Google API console. The third paragraph (the one that begins with “Final note”) in the setup instructions is relevant here: https://updraftplus.com/support/configuring-google-drive-api-access-in-updraftplus/

October 19, 2016 at 8:32 am #177044AlexanderParticipantThis kind of makes sense we have 45 sites backing up on one project
