    Hello,

We keep our website backups on a separate cloud space for redundancy. Our updraft-generated backups (using the paid version) have been saved to our OneDrive cloud for years, but due to an increase in our OneDrive security, we have decided to migrate our backups to a dedicated WebDAV enabled cloud.

We tested the solution to be functional on the Koofr cloud by backing up only the WordPress database using our WebDAV credentials, and it worked perfect. We then purchased 1 TB of WebDAV-enabled, lifetime cloud storage space, and configured UpdraftPlus to interface with our new cloud storage. It is important to note that Koofr has no file size or I/O limits per their sales material.

At first glance all seemed to work fine. When looking at the storage area, I could see that the files were being created realtime and in the correct directory on the cloud as intended, however as time went by I realized that non-database backups are taking an extended period of time (overnight) and never ever completing. Only small files appear to complete and large files are continually retrying.

We are using the latest paid version of the UpdraftPlus plugin with all the add-ons. We are using WordPress 6.0.2 with the following configuration which have been confirmed through more than one tool. It may be important to mention that we are on PHP 7.4 and cannot upgrade to 8.0 or 8.1 as our theme cannot support versions beyond 7.4 at the moment:

    php_value max_execution_time 600
    php_value max_input_vars 3000
    php_value max_input_time 1000
    php_value memory_limit 2048M
    php_value post_max_size 128M
    php_value upload_max_filesize 128M

When the website produces a LOCAL backup it only takes 22 seconds for a complete and successful backup as we are on a high-end dedicated hosting server with SSD storage on GoDaddy.

While we were using OneDrive with max execution time of 300 everything worked fine since year 2020, but using WebDAV we cannot get a successful backup even though files are in fact being created on the desired cloud volume. They simply never finish without errors. It keeps delaying and restarting until it gives up over hours.

We also tried file sizes 400, 300, 200, and 100 MB all without success. Database backup alone finishes just fine (we only tried with a 400 MB chunk size).

I would be happy to email you the generated log file if you would provide an email address or a secure FTP box to send it to.

Since we tested this configuration to work before we purchased non-refundable lifetime cloud space from a reputable storage provider offering WebDAV, and we can successfully access the volume and drop files in it using WebDAV, we really need to get our issue resolved, and your assistance would be highly appreciated.

To further troubleshoot and attempt to isolate the root cause of the problem, we have made a WebDAV connection to an entirely different cloud storage provider – IceDrive. We use the exact same plugin, theme, version of PHP and version of WordPress. The only thing changed the the underlying cloud storage.

We are having the same exact problem with IceDrive when we use WebDAV protocol. Again, it passes the initial test, files are created in the target directory of the IceDrive service, but it starts to retry (resumptions) on 3 of 7 files and never finishes. If we backup the database by itself, the backup completes successfully and relatively quickly.

At this time, since I have tested DropBox, OneDrive, and local hosting backup storage to work fine, and since both Koofr and IceDrive fail when using WebDAV as a protocol, I see the common denominator to be the WebDAV add-on of the UpdraftPlus plugin and/or its configuration.

We would like one of your developers to take a look at the logs I have attached and provide a solution.

    Hi,

Could you try to reduce the backup archive split size. This will split the backup into smaller, more manageable files.

To do this, open the ‘expert settings’ section of the UpdraftPlus Settings tab, and find the ‘split backups every’ option. Set this to 100mb, save your settings and run a new process.

    Regards,
    Bryle

As I have already mentioned in my very detailed report we have already tried the 100, 200, 300, qnd 400 file sizes, and that has not made any difference in our level of success… We are still experiencing the same issue on the Uploads file.

We suspect this is an issue with the WebDAV Add-on of the UpdraftPlus plugin and thus we have requested a developper to look into this issue and offer other configuration information or an update to this plugin.

To duplicate this issue, all they need to do is create an account on Koofr and actually backup a good size website to Koofr through the WebDAV Add-on. This issue also has happened to other reputable cloud storage providers.

Please look at the extensive log I have attached.

    Hello,

I am wondering if any progress has been made with this case.

We have already uploaded the log files for backups done to Koofer… they are attached, however, I also have the log files for backups to IceDrive which is indicative of the same issue. We can upload those as well if they will help!

    Hi,

    Apologies for the delay.

Would it be possible to allow us access to the site, so we can inspect the issue and run some tests firsthand?
If so, please could you open a new support ticket, and ask for it to be assigned to Dee in the description?
(Login details should not be posted in the forum)

    Best Wishes,
    Dee

I have submitted the support ticket as requested.
We are fine with Updraft gaining access to our website, but third party is difficult.

Should access be necessary, please let us know how to share it in a credential manner.
