DigitalOcean is one of the Internet’s biggest server infrastructure providers, much loved by developers, and has recently been looking to branch out into storage provision. You can apply to join the testing program (or, once its launched, start using it as an ordinary customer), here.

And the good news… they didn’t seek to re-invent the wheel and invent yet another protocol for remote storage communications. Their product uses the fairly-popular S3 protocol, which UpdraftPlus – both free and Premium – already support.

We’re on DigitalOcean’s testing program, and are happy to say that – it just works. Enter the correct settings, and away you go. Here’s the guide to how to do it. Just one thing to note – on the current UpdraftPlus release, you need to pre-create the bucket that you wish to use in your DigitalOcean dashboard. With the next release, it can and will automatically create a new bucket for you.
