The staging site I’m trying to restore is https://staging.edwardconard.com I am trying to restore files from https://edwardconard.com (the live site to staging server to play with some new development.) I cannot get the restore to work. It seems to work fine with the database, and even changes the server / url names to staging. Then, when it tries to access plugins next, it just freezes. No error messages. I’ve waited hours for something to happen and selected the “continue restoration” button multiple times and nothing has worked. . . So I tried to go to the live site plugins directory and copy it directly into the staging plugins directory. This broke everything. Now, when I try to view the “staging site” I get asked to login to a weird site – https://danielsowelu.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fdanielsowelu.com%2F. But I can login to the development site – staging.edwardconard.com/wp-admin

I am guessing nothing else is restoring – Themes, Uploads (which there are 3 files), Other. And I have no idea if Plugins will be correct copied over.

    Hi,

Please could you send us a copy of the latest restoration log?
This can be found in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of the staging site via FTP.

The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Pastebin or Dropbox, and post the link here.

    Best Wishes,

    Thanks David –
Before you requested the logs, I created a Word Document outlining my attempts today to try everything again. I re-created a new Staging subdomain / URL and loaded a fresh WordPress install (our host is BlueHost for this client). I then added the Updraft Premium plugin and made sure it was connected with our license. I then re-uploaded the recent Updraft files (from Production yesterday) to the Staging server – one by one to make sure there were no errors. I then tried to Migrate / Restore the files one by one to watch the errors. This was smart because I did see some errors, unlike yesterday when it just froze and gave no messages. Here is a link to a dropbox folder with MANY files. Please read Attempted Restore Word Doc first as it explains what I did. There are individual log files for all 5 Migrate attempts – DB, Others, Themes, Plugins, Uploads and any repeats.

Thank you for your time. I would be happy to give you a User Login as this is a staging server, not live/production. The production works fine currently but I am worried we won’t be able to restore from the backups if we have problems.

I’m wondering why no one at UpdraftPlus has responded when we pay for the premium service. It has been over 2 weeks and I would have lost the client using UpdraftPlus if I did not figure a few things out. It was only a staging server, so I just removed some plugins I did not think we needed. Then, I re-migrated the Database. There were still some error messages on the staging server website, so I just went into the php files and commented out some commands. I can now test new things there.

PROBLEM: This would NOT have been a solution if it was production. Production currently works just fine, so I don’t understand why I cannot migrate the database to a ‘sub-domain’ on the same server / host / etc.

I am very worried my UpdraftPlus backups will not restore correctly if there is a problem with production. Can you look at the logs / my restore issues document and let me know if you have any advice?
