I’m having exactly the same issue. Upgraded to the paid version of UpdraftPlus but no daily backup going to Dropbox as set up.
Tried a manual Backup Now three hours ago but this has been stuck for hours on this:
“Adding batch to zip file (UpdraftPlus_ZipArchive): over 500 files added on this batch (15.9 MB, 6100 files batched, 501 (501) added so far); re-opening (prior size: 33399.8 KB) (Jan 03 12:21:15)
Download most recently modified log file”January 3, 2017 at 6:32 pm #187459Dee NutbourneModeratorHi,
I have split this from the original topic to keep the two conversations clear.
Please could you send us a copy of the latest backup log? This can be found in the Existing Backups tab.
The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Pastebin or Dropbox, and post the link here. You can also set your reply to ‘private’ if you prefer.

Latest log is available here:

It appears from the log that UpdraftPlus is not able to process the files efficiently in the amount of time available to each resumption. As such, files are being added to the backup very slowly, until the backup process as a whole is timed out.
Could you please contact your hosts/server admin and ask them to increase the maximum execution time available to WordPress? It appears that this is currently set to 60 seconds.
Could you also reduce the split size of the backup files to 25MB? This can be done through the ‘expert settings’ section of the UpdraftPlus Settings tab.

Sorry for the slow reply but had a hacked website to fix.
The execution time was set to 300 but has been boosted to even more.
However, I’m still unable to get UpdraftPlus to back up anymore. It runs for so long and then just stops and becomes inactive (over 1.5hrs without a log change).
Here’s the latest log:

January 5, 2017 at 12:16 pm #187755JonathanParticipantp.s. in Existing Backups the above backup is showing as “Not finished” – hasn’t updated the log for nearly 2hrs though?
January 5, 2017 at 7:37 pm #187825Dee NutbourneModeratorHi,
The latest log is still showing each resumption being killed of after ~60 seconds or less.
Please could you (or your hosts/server admin) check the PHP error logs? These may contain information on any errors that are killing off the process early.Could you also ask your hosts/server admin if there is a binary zip executable available on the server?
Best Wishes,
