Our security team is pushing back on allowing developers to have FTP access to our Production wordpress site, and I am trying to understand why Updraft needs to FTP access to complete a restore even though the backup files have been uploaded on onto the local filesystem.

2nd question, does restoring the database also require FTP access?

Any supplemental information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Rich

Just as a follow-up I followed the steps in this link to upload the backup files from our dev site to our production site. (https://updraftplus.com/faqs/how-do-i-migrate-to-a-new-site-location/) However when the restore process starts I am prompted for FTP info.

    Hi Rich,

Your first question is answered in this FAQ: https://updraftplus.com/faqs/asked-ftp-details-upon-restorationmigration-updates/ .

FTP access is not needed for a database restore.
