Migration/Clone – Error Questions and Feedback

Hello Updraftplus Team,

on migration/cloning by using “send backup to another site” I have problems:
Error “Unexpected HTTP response code (401) (unexpected_http_code)” is coming up.

My remote side to which the copy is sent, is not behind a firewall, but behind a HTTP Authentication. So, when opening the site which I want coping to, you have to enter some http auth credentials. That’s pretty basic for having web sites online, which people can not access without the http authentication credentials. And that’s also pretty default way, when making a clone of your site, because you do not want that other can access your clone.

Is “send backup to another site” capable of this?
I checked already Updraft versions, they are the same on both side.
Is see that you mentioned “firewalls are not working with this” in your guides, but I do not use any firewall.

Also some feedback about cloning:
I am disappointed right now, after study more of the documentations. I see no option of disabling some plugins on the process of migrations/cloning, which other WP plugins have without using premium.
I think these basics are missing, which are needed when making clones of your website for testing purpose e.g. to a subdomain.

That I have to install WP on the “clone site”, install updraft, then making updraft to premium (also on “clone site”), before being able to clone/migrate to a test-sub-domain, also is big overhead I do not see in other non-premium plugins. I thought when buying premium, beside enhancements of the “backup features” itself, I get also a nice solution to make fast clones to sub-domains for testing (without using your “UpdraftClone” cloud solution).

But I do not see to have a “nice solution” here. But perhaps I miss some magic here to make ….
– very fast clones of main page to sub-domains (behind a http authentication),
– without installing things before clone, so it can be made fast,
– with having “some” plugins not started at the clone (updraft as example should not run on the clone, and some other plugins I want to configure one time),
– and of course to the “migration” stuff at cloning like changing URLs in WP Database, etc. pp.
Any solution to have for this, in my opinion, default requirements for a sub-domain clone with testing purpose?

Thank you Bryle,

as Feedback, some of these solution in that thread, e.g. “adding some code to function.php to add http auth data on remote sending”, is not mentioned in your guide for migrating/cloning.
Also in these guides is only spoken of firewall problems, not of “problems” on “http basic authentication”. I think it is a good idea to add some word to it. Especially because your thread shows some solutions:
1. changes in functions.php,
2. Set IP of main-website to whitelist in “http basic authentication”
I will give them a try.

Regardless of that, I had some other suggestions or better say, I miss in your premium plugin some features, which I have in non premium plugins. And would be nice to have.
– Settings for plugins deactivated after clone
– (New:) Change the Title of the site at clone process
– (and some other feature e.g. Plugin called Dublicator has and which is useful )

Where do I have to place suggestions correctly?
Would be nice to see some improvement in the future here.
