Could you run the following test with your browser’s developer tools?
*In your browser, open your Developer Tools (instructions on how to do this for each major browser can be found here)
*Open the ‘Console’ tab if it is not already open
*Reload the page and attempt to create the keyDo you see any errors appear in the developer console? Could you send me a copy of screenshot of those errors?

I’ve replied to the support ticket you opened about this.

March 30, 2016 at 5:30 pm #149536Dee NutbourneModeratorHi Richard,
You will need to contact your hosts/server admin and ask them to update the PHP version.
March 31, 2016 at 11:24 pm #149738RichardParticipantThanks. I ended up doing it manually. Bummer I did’nt get to try out the migrate function I paid for yet.
April 1, 2016 at 9:05 pm #149884udadminKeymasterHi Richard,
Sorry to hear that! In the latest UD release, there’s a selector to allow you to choose a smaller key size, which cuts down the time needed on hosts which generate the keys slowly (which is due to missing PHP modules – specifically, one of openssl or the gmp PHP modules should be there, otherwise much slower methods have to be used by the cryptography library).

In Chrome at least I get a pop up window saying it was created successfully and that I should copy and paste it. But there’s nothing to copy and paste!November 21, 2016 at 7:06 pm #181178Dee NutbourneModeratorHi,
The key should be displayed underneath everything else in that pop-up. Depending on screen size/resolution, you may need to scroll down within the pop-up.
If the key still doesn’t display, could you run the following test with your browser’s developer tools?
- In your browser, open your Developer Tools (instructions on how to do this for each major browser can be found here)
- Open the ‘Console’ tab if it is not already open
- Reload the UpdraftPlus page and generate a new key
Do you see any errors appear in the developer console? Could you send a copy of those errors?
Best Wishes,

December 5, 2016 at 11:57 pm #183406NealParticipantTurns out it was a dumb mistake for me.
I expected to see the key on the screen but didn’t realize I had to scroll down for the key to show. Duh!December 6, 2016 at 3:59 pm #183528Mowat CentreParticipantI noticed an update to the plug-in, the look of the pop up window was different, and since I have had no issues with it at all. Using it on several sites and they’re all working great with the plug-in now.
